Habitat for Humanity’s Approach to Affordable Housing
Even in the difficult housing market, Habitat for Humanity is one organization that is making a difference by helping families achieve their dreams of homeownership. Through house sponsorship, individual donations, and volunteer time, Habitat affiliates build quality, affordable and attractive houses. These homes are sold to homebuyer families through no-profit, no-interest loans.
The Habitat for Humanity program gives a hand-up, not a hand-out. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of sweat equity hours building their own homes.
Atlanta Habitat Affiliate Seeking Homebuyers
Since 1983, the Atlanta Habitat affiliate has built more than 1,000 homes in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, improving the quality of life for more than 3,500 individual family members. Atlanta Habitat's goal is to build 50-60 homes each year.
Although the houses that Atlanta Habitat build are mainly in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, the organization is now able to serve families who live or work in 10 metro Atlanta counties, including Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dawson, DeKalb, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Henry.
Atlanta Habitat is currently looking for new homebuyer applicants. These potential homebuyers may be someone you know or work with: hard-working, motivated individuals who are investing in their family as well as in the Atlanta community.
Habitat for Humanity. Building houses. Building hope.
